FACE OILS: WHY YOU SHOULD ADD THEM TO YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE
Our natural tendency when we think of oil, is to think of its use in our food prep, and in our hair care. But with discovery of new oils and new plants every day, the skin care world has come to realize just how great face oils can be!
In very short, they’re hydrating, they’re protecting, they correct sun damage, they even out skin tone – they can do everything and more.
But then, you’d say – all this can be obtained through my creams and serums too! Why add an oil?
Ah, but here lies the main difference – and here’s why you should definitely include face oils in your skin care routine – oils are naturally nourishing. Deeply nourishing. And they can give your skin every nutrient it requires to be flawless, radiant and super soft from within. They’re meant for long lasting benefits as much as they are meant for instant glow.
While creams are moisturising and nourishing too, there’s nothing like an oil to protect the outer skin barrier. Creams also tend to have chemicals or synthetic moisturisers, where oils are typically available 100% naturally.
Facial oils are also helpful for keeping skin’s vital hydration locked in, and they have incredible, instantaneous skin-smoothing properties.
Plus, face oils plump skin, improve skin tone – and most importantly, they help better absorption into skin.
Here you’ll say – that’s all great. Especially if my skin is dry or aging. But what is my skin is oily/acne prone or combination? I don’t want to add more oils to my face! I’ll get breakouts!
Actually, no, you won’t!
Typically, lighter, more fluid oils are recommended for skin care – especially if your skin tends to be oily or combination oily. For example, coconut oils is generally a no-no unless your skin is flaking.
So, Cream or Face Oil?
Both! While creams are good emollients, oils provide nourishment for long term benefits on skin.
Serum or Face Oil?
a 100% natural face oil, especially one suited to your exact needs will trump a serum.
But, which Face Oil?
Go for a light oil if your skin is oily – these are called dry finish oils and are non greasy like jojoba. For drier skin, go for an oil that packs in moisture and retains it – like argan. For skin concerns, use targeting oils to correct!
